These days most of us (including moi) are glued to their smart phones, laptops, iPads and desktops. This includes folks looking at photos digitally. If you looked at the same photo on all of these electronic items side by side you’d notice how different they look. That’s because no two monitors/displays are exactly alike. More importantly, some displays can really do a disservice to the final image prepared by your friendly local photographer (yours truly). Images can appear too dark or bright or over saturated or desaturated. You name it. Which is why it’s important to take a step back and remember how wonderful and important it is to behold and actually hold a printed photo vs. quickly glancing at it on screen before rushing to see the next image. Check out Exhibit A below. Two side by side monitors displaying the same photo stretched across the two monitors yet look at how vastly different the colors are. Notice how flat and desaturated the colors are on the left? Whereas the reds and the blues jump off the screen on the right as they appeared in person. Not to mention, the image on the left makes it look like the pants are pale green vs having a vibrant aqua tone! Totally unacceptable and it gives me the willies.
Displays aren’t the only culprits responsible for not accurately representing a final image that meets your photographer’s standards. No two printers are alike. From the ink to the paper to the printer settings a single image can look noticeably different depending on which place of business you entrust with your photo printing. I invite you to check out some recent product orders I’ve fulfilled. Of course you’re looking at these images on your very own monitor vs. in person so who knows what you’re seeing. DOH! That simply means you’re overdue for your next photo session when I can not only photograph you but also show samples in person. Or it’s high time for us to meet! Wink wink, nudge, nudge. That being the case this is a good opportunity to share with you some of my favorite types of products that clients order.
Have a wonderful day!
